Terms of Use — Meld

Meld is a scorekeeping app for the card game pinochle, published by Heritage Times LLC (“we”, “us”). By using Meld you agree to what follows. It is short on purpose.

What Meld is

A scorekeeper. It records the hands you tell it about and does the arithmetic. It does not deal cards, it cannot see your hand, and it has no opinion about how your table plays — house rules are yours to set.

Meld is not a gambling service and takes no stake in any game.

The score is yours, and so is the last word

Meld can be wrong. It can be wrong because we made a mistake, and it can be wrong because somebody typed the wrong number. Either way the app is a record of what you told it, not an authority on what happened at your table.

If the app and the table disagree, the table is right. Please tell us when that happens — Settings → Support — because a scoring bug we do not hear about is one everybody keeps hitting.

Meld Premium

Scoring is free, permanently and without conditions. Meld Premium is a one-time purchase that unlocks your full game history, statistics, honors and cloud backup.

• Purchases are handled by Google Play, not by us. We never see your payment details.
• Refunds are Google’s under their published policy. We cannot issue one and cannot reverse one.
• Premium is tied to the Google account that bought it, and can be restored on a new device signed in to that account.
• What Premium includes may grow. If we ever have to remove something from it, we will say so before it happens.

Nothing you record is ever deleted for not paying. An unpaid app keeps scoring, and the history is there waiting if you unlock later.

Accounts

An account is optional and exists to carry your history to a new phone. You are responsible for keeping your password to yourself. Tell us if you think somebody else has it.

You can delete your account, your backup and your badge at any time from Settings → Account & backup. Done that way it happens immediately. You can also ask us at meldscore.app/delete-account, and we complete those requests within 30 days. Either way it cannot be undone.

We may close an account that is used to break these terms — in practice, that means the section below.

Names, and other people’s screens

Almost everything in Meld stays on your phone. One thing does not: the name you choose is shown to other people. It appears when you ask to join somebody’s table, it sits on their board while you play, and if you are signed in it travels with your badge to everyone seated.

So: do not use a name that is obscene, hateful, threatening, or aimed at insulting somebody at the table. Use whatever you like otherwise — nicknames, initials, “Grandma”, the dog.

Three things back that up, in the order they happen:

1. The app refuses the obvious cases outright when you type them.
2. The scorekeeper decides. Nobody appears at a table without being let in by the person whose table it is, and they can remove anyone afterwards. Tables are private, reachable only with a four-digit code given to you, and they expire on their own.
3. If something gets past both, tell us: Settings → Support, “Someone’s name at a table”, or use the contact form. We can close the account behind a name.

We do not read your games and we do not monitor tables. Meld has no public space, no directory and no way to browse strangers — which is why the person holding the table is the one who decides who is at it.

What you may not do

• Use Meld to break the law, or to harass anybody
• Try to reach another person’s account, backup or table without being invited
• Take the app apart to work around the Premium purchase, or resell it
• Automate, scrape or hammer our services in a way that spoils them for everyone else

What we do not promise

Meld is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available without interruption, that shared tables will always reach every phone, or that it will be free of faults. Shared tables depend on a network and on Google Firebase; sometimes they will not work.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for anything beyond what you paid us — which for most people is nothing, and for everyone else is the price of one unlock. In particular, we are not liable for a disputed score, a lost game, or a night that ended in an argument about meld.

Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be limited.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change matters, the date at the top will change and the new version will be published here before it takes effect. Continuing to use Meld after that means you accept it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, United States, without regard to conflict of law rules.
